Tall stature

Tall stature is rarely pathological, however plotting on the growth chart comparing with the parents heights is important. Familial tall stature (Tall parents-tall child) is the most common cause. Fetal Overgrowth is seen in certain syndromes and maternal diabetes mellitus. Childhood tall stature is seen in obesity , precocious puberty, growth hormone excess and certain syndromes.Klinefelter syndrome should be considered in a patient with tall stature, increased arm span, sparse hair, small testes, and a high pitched voice, predicting the need for karyotype testing. A tall patient with decreased upper to lower body segment ratio, hyperextensible joints and scoliosis(bent curvature of spine) may have Marfan syndrome. Kindly see the pediatric endocrinologist if your child is growing too tall.
