Dr Shaila SB was born in 1963 (daughter of Shamanur Shivashankarappa and Parvathi), graduated from JJMMC, Davangere (MBBS). She obtained DCH and MD in Paediatrics from JJMMC only.

She completed her DM in Endocrinology at PGI, Chandigarh. She worked in the UK for seven years in Paediatrics, Neonatology, and Paediatric Endocrinology at various hospitals, including Paediatrics Endocrinology in Manchester Children’s Hospital. During her stay she completed her DCH and MRCP.

Dr. Shaila has been working as a Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Endocrinologist at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, since 2001 till date. She also serves as a Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at JJM Medical College (Rajiv Gandhi University). She is the Director of Shivajyoti, an advanced dedicated center for the treatment and research in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Dr Shaila has pioneered the Fellowship programme in Paediatric Endocrinology at Manipal Academy of Higher Education to train post-MD/DNB Paediatrics.

Dr Shaila’s areas of special interests are growth disorders in children, early and late puberty, childhood and adolescent diabetes and diseases of the thyroid gland.

She has more than 30+ publications in various national and international Journals.

Dr Shaila has many national and international publications for her name and authoured many chapters in Paediatric Endocrine textbooks. She has also co-authored in patient information booklets on Diabetes, Thyroid and Endocrinology in English, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
